Lanzarote Family Travel Guide

Lanzarote, in the gorgeous Canary Islands is best known for stunning beaches and a year round pleasant climate, but is also famous for volcanoes and a very bizarre natural terrain. In fact the whole island has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Gather up the family and perhaps you may even get to ride on a camel as they are often used to transport goods (and sometimes tourists) in this desert-like climate, across the dry volcanic ash that covers most of the landscape.

Family days out and attractions in Lanzarote
The contrast of stunning white sandy beaches with tranquil waters and mountainous volcanoes await your discovery in this idealic family holiday location. Do see these great attractions while visiting with your family.

Timanfaya Volcano Park - this is most popular attraction and rightly so; as the scenery found here is like no other on the entire planet! It is similar to the surface of the moon - but in truth this is more how the earth must have looked when it was first formed many centuries ago. This is a truly unique and memorable experience that the whole family will enjoy.

Jameos Del Agua - Is this the 8th wonder of the world? A jameos is a collapsed lava tube; which island born artist Cesar Manrique turned into an underground cave with restaurant, gardens, a lagoon and more. Worth a look but only the king of spain is allowed to swim in the magnificent pool! Sorry!

Mirador Del Rio - Check out the breathtaking views from this vantage point which used to be an old gun battery guarding the narrow waterway between neighbouring island of Graciosa and Lanzarote.

Cactus Garden - Over 1000 varieties of cacti with no shortage of weird and wonderful shapes, forms and colours as well as lots and lots of thorns! Ouch!

Aqualand Aquapark - Keep the kids smiling as this attraction offers water slides, rapids, lots of swimming pools and a dolphinarium. They will want to return again, and again!

Scuba-diving - Diving is the probably the most popular water sport in Lanzarote and facilities cater for both the novice and experienced divers or try snorkelling. The area below the water’s surface is alive with a beautiful sea bottom with lava rock and sand with an abundant fish life.

Other beach activities - Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a fun filled day at the beach swimming, soaking up the sun’s rays and generally spending time playing with the kids in the sand! Water skiing, jet skiing and para-sailing, dolphin and whale spotting is also available from the all the main tourist resorts on the island.
