Be forewarned though; this is not an ideal place for independent or low cost holidaying and may weigh in a little on the expensive side. Family restaurants and local cuisine
There is a mix of Western, South East Asian, and Indian influences when it comes to the local cuisine of the Maldives and no holiday here is complete without trying at least a couple of the restaurants for a mouth-watering gourmet dining experience. Do look for special deals where kids eat free with each paying adult or those that cater especially for children. All inclusive deals are also a great family option. Many restaurants and cafes are located in the capital city of Male; as the islands only have those attached to the major hotels and the resorts. Do try the Thai Wok Restaurant, 4 Degrees in Taj Exotica and Salsa Café as these are quite popular.
