Family Holidays to the Seychelles

The Indian Ocean Island of Seychelles has all the makings of the ideal tropical island family getaway! A family paradise island holiday sounds like a great way to spend some time together; long, white, sandy beaches, warm tranquil waters, swaying palm trees, exotic foods and 41 islands and 74 cays in all. What’s missing? You and your family of course!

Places to go with kids in Seychelles
Choosing paradise has never been easier; Seychelles is rather spread out and has so many islands to choose from; it’s like having your very own deserted island experience! Get your family ready for some island hopping; by boat of course! Or you could fly in as there are airports on Bird Island, Denis Island, Desroches Island, Fregate Island, Praslin Island and Mahe Island.
Diving and snorkeling in the turquoise waters is another absolute must do, with the Inner Islands allowing easy access to a shallow plateau and the Outer Islands providing for the more experienced diver. Take a glass-bottomed boat tour to look at giant turtles. There is also big game fishing and salt-water fly-fishing. Or the kids may like to try their luck straight off the beach or in a canoe!

Although you can peacefully sail on a catamaran or try wind-surfing, for conservation reasons there are no motorized water sports in Seychelles.  And the beaches in Seychelles, such as Cousine Island, are ranked among the top beaches of the world. Add to this that the region has a longtradition in eco-tourism, withmarine parks, as well as the forest and mountain reserves, for you and your family to explore. You can swim with the largest fish in the ocean, the plankton-eating whale shark, in the protected waters or visit the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Child friendly accommodation in Seychelles
Much of the accommodation in Seychelles is deemed as child friendly; but do take into consideration that there are no kid’s clubs, kid’s restaurants and that many people opt to travel to Seychelles without them in tow. There are some lovely self-contained hotels and resorts in which to stay none the less and these do range from budget to those more luxurious. We’ve listed our favourites to the right of this page.

Family restaurants and local cuisine
So, what’s Seychelles cuisines like? The Seychelles has African, Chinese, English, French and Indian influences in regard to its cuisine; which spells interesting and tasty! The careful blending of spices is a most important feature with coconut milk and breadfruit used in many dishes. Extremely fresh seafood, a view of the deepest blue sea, a light refreshing breeze and the kids- what more could you ask for! Restaurants serve meat-based dishes (lamb, chicken and pork), but the best revolve around fish and shellfish. Rice; plain, spiced or saffron flavored, along with soft white bread are usual accompaniments. Add to these fresh fruits and vegetables; and there you have it!

For the truly adventurous; a great local specialty awaits you: bat meat! Some restaurants even have it permanently on the menu, but others especially get one hunted down for you! It is reported to be gamy, but similar in taste to lamb! Wash it down with the local coconut liquor, called "Coco d'amour". Fruit is common for breakfast and desserts, with croissants also on the menu. Yum!

Finally; the best option for visiting Seychelles from a financial vantage; may be an all-inclusive package trip that includes your airfares, accommodation and even some meals.
