Amalfi Coast Family Travel Guide

It seems that when you have kids in tow nothing is simple, not even packing a bag for the beach; but do work it all out because the beaches here are just lovely and you definitely won’t want to forget your cozzie! The dramatic coastline of Amalfi offers an astonishing palette of diverse colours with sapphire skies, white limestone cliffs, deep blue seas of the sparkling Mediterranean and bright citrus orchards and that’s just the dramatic and beautiful landscape! How about taking the family for a hike along the stunning Sentiero degli Dei (Footpath of the Gods); and a day trip to the island of Capri and historic Pompeii?
Family days out and attractions in Amalfi Coast
Amalfi Coast’s heart and soul is most definitely in the serene blue of the sky and her sparkling waters of the sea. Your family will enjoy days out at the beach and watching the countless boats on parade as they cruise into port; but there are also plenty of other attractions that you cannot afford to miss.
Don’t forget to visit Greek temples at Paestum, Pompeii and do enjoy one of the worlds most scenic and spectacular coast roads.

A day trip for a picnic at Positano, so picturesque it is called ‘the gem of the divine coast’ as this lovely spot is in the mountains and surrounded by splendid rich Mediterranean vegetation.

Sorrento
is an enchanting town perched high on a cliff with lots of restaurants, shops and a lively marina, from where you can visit Capri and Ischia. And of course, Praiano which is between Amalfi and chic Positano with a small fairly sandy beach, the little fishing village will delight your entire family with its friendly charm.

Child friendly accommodation and places to stay in Amalfi Coast
There are endless options when it comes to family accommodation in Amalfi Coast with Castles, villas with swimming pools, farm houses, cottages and apartments; just to name a few. There is certainly one made to measure for your family’s needs while visiting. The most important thing to do is take your time in making your choice; it’s rather simple really! Have a look at these:
Villa Casale, Ravello - Elegant and aristocratic, Ravello sits on a rocky spur, high above the Amalfi Coast. Self-catering accommodation makes a lot of sense to busy families with fussy eaters always on the go because you can stock the fridge with simple to prepare meal favourites!
Amalfi 51 - Another self contained apartment which is a family favourite. Separate bedrooms mean a little peace and quiet from the kids, which can save your sanity when holidaying for extended periods together! Check it out!
Family restaurants in Amalfi Coastand cuisine
I
n a perfect world we wouldn't cook while on holidays but in most cases the budget just doesn't allow that and kids tend to prefer your home cooked delights to fancy restaurant meals anyway! But for those kids that are brave to try the local cuisine, they will be pleasantly surprised because there’s lots of pizza and pasta dishes on the menu! And, they can always fill up on herb focaccia which is so wonderfully tasty! By the way, did I tell you that the ice-cream is freshly made and comes in all the delicious flavours under the sun?
For more discerning palettes, this sun-drenched country is a feast for all the senses; the sweet perfume of fresh tomatoes, an explosion of flavour and colour; the unique yet delicate taste of newly pressed olive oil and other fresh seasonal ingredients handpicked at local markets. What was that about self-catering?
When to travel
The busiest time in the area is during most of the month of August with local Italian holiday makers about, but the best time to visit is generally late spring as the weather is just splendid!
Did you know that there are some great family walking adventure trips that are specifically designed for families with children in mind? A reasonably good level of fitness is required as they take place along well-defined paths with plenty of ups and downs! Worth looking at though for a unique holiday memory!
