Let’s start with exploring this energetic city which is located on the north banks of the River Tagus by foot as you wonder through the narrow, cobbled streets you will find bulging with trams, pavement cafes and fado houses as well as many renovated palaces, impressive churches and museums making it an interesting place to visit. To top up your energy levels head for one of the many Art Nouveau cafes for a strong espresso or a refreshingly cool drink.

Kids will enjoy riding on the antique Tram 28 as you make your way to enjoy a tour of the Castelo de Sao Jorge Castle, a hilltop castle dedicated to England's patron saint that overlooks the the Baixa and the Mouraria neighbourhoods.
A short rail journey will get you to Cascais, which has more beaches; nearby Guincho is a real paradise for families as the water is sparkling crystal clear.  Terrace restaurants are everywhere, so perhaps a delicious ice-cream is on the agenda!
How about a friendly game of soccer with the locals at Carcavelos, deemed the most popular beach in Lisbon? Tamariz in Estoril is also well worth visiting with satin-sand beaches, high-class hotels, golf links and vibrant nightlife. Costa da Caparica lies to the south of the city and is also one of the best beaches in Europe.

Lisbon – useful facts
A superb network of new motorways allow for trouble free motoring through much of southern Portugal? This means that apart from major holiday periods there is not a problem with traffic congestion. How cool is that! And beautiful Lisbon offers a mild and temperate climate, with short winters and long hot summers and although the temperature may fall a bit in the autumn and winter months, the lovely sunshine is usually still a most regular visitor!
