Family holidays to Spain

Flamenco dancing, intrinsic guitar and castanets; you guessed right! We are heading for vibrant colourful Spain. This has been a popular travel destination for families throughout Europe for years, especially those of cooler climates in search of sun, sand and a little excitement. Whether visiting small fishing villages or the bustling capitol of Madrid; Spain offers plenty to do for families; especially if it’s fun you are after!

Things to do with the family in Spain
From whale and dolphin spotting to walking in the spectacular Alcornocales Natural Park or relaxing on the pristine beaches, Spain has it all. So let’s go see the sights!
Madrid - Discover the magical beat of Spain’s capitol city situated in the middle of the Castillian plain. Famous artists are on show including the Pradofor works by El Greco, Velázquez, Bartolomé Estéban Murillo, Goya, Botticelli, Titian, and Rembrandt. The National Museum of Modern Art, also in Madrid, concentrates on Spanish painting after 1800.
Do head to the Basques, the Bay of Biscay; the Galicians, in north-western Spain; and the Catalans, of north-eastern Spain for some cultural diversity.
Time for a change of pace, try kayaking around the beautiful Barbate Lake, where a stray splash to cool off is likely! There’s plenty of horse riding escapades or canyoning for those that like to be active; or if relaxing in the sun is more your thing you can opt to take the family to the beach for the day, or even try wind-surfing for those a little more adventurous.
Child friendly accommodation and places to stay in Spain
Months would be needed to truly experience Spain's diverse and distinct regions and there are many options when it comes to accommodation; so check them out thoroughly, as all offer a variety of which you will find some thing that suits your family’s needs. Try camping, self-catering or perhaps a family friendly resort offering special children play and eat for free tariff!
Family restaurants in and cuisine
Remember that the Spanish usually eat late, with many restaurants not opening for dinner until 9.00pm so self-catering is always a great option for families, but eating out in Spain is fun too. So why not treat the kids to some fish and chips on the coast, a tasty Spanish omelette and paella for lunch.
Tapas, is traditional in Spain and simply means to cover with a lid. Try a tapas bar for a variety of traditional Spanish cuisine. Tapas can be simply a slice of toast rubbed with garlic and dipped in olive oil, with ham, salami, cheese or olives added. Enjoy!
