Costa Del Sol Family Travel Guide

The Costa del Sol is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations with a year round mild climate, it means that visitors can play in the sun, sea and sand as well as lots of other attractions; no matter what time of year they visit! That adds up to one really great family holiday.
Family days out and attractions in Costa Del Sol
It is very rare to get a cold, cloudy or wet day in Costa del Sol (suncoast) but even the weather wasn’t all sunshine; there is so much to do for kids, no matter how old or young they are! No time to be bored!
See the Zoo in Feungirola or the Selwo Adventure Park which is spread out with a real safari feel to it. You will do a lot of walking though!
For more animal adventures there is the Crocodile Park in Torremolinos and the Selwo Marina, the Sea Life Centre and of course Dolphin World where you can get up close and personal with these amazing sea mammals. Kids love horses? Then do go on a trail ride through the hills at El Ranchito Equestrian Centre.
Or ride the cable car (Arroyo de la Miel) up to the top of the Calamorro Mountains for great views, and on the clear day you can see to Morocco.
Tivoli World and Isla Magica Amusement Parks will keep you screaming as you ride the roller coasters and other thrill seeker’s rides. And of course all kids love water parks and there are lots to choose from! There's 'Parque Acuatico' in Mijas, 'Aquapark' in Torremolinos and 'Bahia Park Acuatico' in Algeciras.
For a quieter day; do visit the beaches, parks, play-grounds and local towns, or take a walk along the promenade and enjoy the relaxed seaside atmosphere that costs you absolutely nothing! Families can kick back and relax on the sand, but there are also Moorish castles and Roman ruins to explore together.
Another fun day out is doing the amusement arcades, movies, ten-pin bowling and of course shopping!
Marina Banus is a small shopping centre with an unbelievable indoor park which caters for both younger and older children. If they get hungry; there’s a variety of restaurants ranging from fast food to traditional tapas bars.
Child friendly accommodation and places to stay in Costa Del Sol
It is very easy to find accommodation on the Costa del Sol. There is so much to choose from whether you prefer a rural holiday home to a five star luxurious  hotel or apartment. With kids, it is often best to opt for self-catering accommodation or even camping is great fun; especially in a location like Costa del Sol with terrific beaches and suck lovely weather all year round!
Some camping grounds worth looking at are:
Camping El Sur, Rhonda - with horse riding, lovely walks, camping and self-contained bungalows; perfect!
Camping Embalse Conde de Guadalhorce, Ardales - offers shady campsites as well as cabins, apartments and bungalows.
Camping Sierra Nevada, Granada - is one of the most convenient camping choices in the region with big, clean bathrooms, a pool and a laundry.
Family restaurants and local cuisine
Traditional cuisine in the coastal areas is predominantly seafood with the most common method with of cooking being to quickly deep-fry in very hot olive oil. Other fish and seafood are grilled a la plancha. Seafood soups (sopa de mariscos) are found everywhere, vary in recipe, and are usually extremely delicious.
With self-catering accommodation do try some fresh produce from the markets in the region and here is a tasty treat to try your self! Hopefully the kids will like it too!
Tostados - This is wonderful at any time of day and if you are camping you can toast it over an open fire! You will need:

- A day old barra (french stick)
- A peeled clove of garlic
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Fresh tomato
*Slice the barra lengthwise and toast until golden, then rub the toasted side with the garlic clove all over. Take the tomato and slice in half and rub vigorously over the toast. Drizzle lots and lots of olive oil onto the toast let it soak in and enjoy! Some people like to sprinkle a little salt on too.
Finally, over 3,000 fiestas are celebrated every year in the Spain; including fairs, carnivals, passion plays, pilgrimages and processions. Every village, no matter how small, holds at least one fiesta a year and generally this means Party Time! Whatever the reason behind the event, be it religious or otherwise, the end result is always the same - lots of music and dancing, drinking and eating and general fun and frolics usually until dawn over a period of several days to a week. So have fun!
