Typhoon Lagoon - Walt Disney World Florida
|
Typhoon Lagoon is one of Disney’s two Water Parks (the other is Blizzard Beach).Think Water Park back home and treble it at least. The whole range of aqueous attractions is on offer from fast waterslides to gentle raft rides for the little ones, most with that added Disney twist. There are also one or two unique attractions like ‘Surf Pool’ and ‘Shark Reef’. The former is a gigantic wave pool with realistic looking artificial beaches and bays and with huge waves that crash in every minute or so. The latter is a swimming pool-cum-aquarium with the chance to snorkel amongst thousands of tropical fish including real sharks! There are also plenty of places to relax on sun loungers close to more tranquil stretches of water, with outside cafes or picnic places close by. The theme of this park is tropical, fitting in with the usual climate and flora of its Florida surroundings. Typhoon Lagoon provides a perfect cooling off contrast for a day out away from other Disney Parks at Orlando that are obviously unmissable but very demanding of little ones feet and your stamina. Snack kiosks and cafes are the main dining options at Typhoon Lagoon. Picnics can be brought along but no alcoholic drinks or glass containers are allowed.

Typhoon Lagoon: Favourites
Crush 'n' Gusher
Crush 'n' Gusher is a raft ride through a ‘disused tropical fruit factory’. In fact it is three rides under the same roof through the aptly named Banana Blaster, Coconut Crusher and Pineapple Plunger. How apt you will discover for yourself as you are flushed both down and up hill on your raft (up to 3 people or on your own) through the wreckage of the plant. The original owners made sure their wash facilities were first class, so expect a thorough dousing as you are spun and swished around tight turns and sudden drops or climbs through its rusting cavernous interior before you are plunged into Hideaway Bay. Its suitable for big kids and you may even like it as well! Explore Typhoon Lagoon > Ketchakiddee CreekKetchakiddee Creek is a very special Water Play Area for young children (height restriction of 4 ft) with every kind of aquatic fun activity Disney can think of. There are slippery whales and seals to climb on, mini-rapids, bubbling fountains and sprinklers to get wet in, an enormous whirlpool bath and sandy beach to sit on and of course slippery slides in abundance. Lifeguards are especially vigilant in this area making it the perfect attraction for all families with very young children. The kids will want to linger so be prepared! Explore Typhoon Lagoon >
Surf PoolSurf Pool is the huge central lagoon area, complete with wave action, of Typhoon Lagoon. Remember how exciting the first wave pool you bobbed up and down in? Surf Pool bears the same relationship to it as the iPad to a notepad! Every minute and a half, 5-foot waves spread out, with only a half hour rest every two hours! The wave action is directed onto sandy beaches in a series of bays, cunningly designed to maximise or minimise the constant surfing action. This means if you want to do some serious surfing you head to the main beach. The wave action is good enough for professional surfing competitions to be held here. More cautious families head for the more gentle waves that lap the beaches of Blustery Bay and Whitecap Cove. There are plenty of places for drinks, snacks and sunbathing. It’s just like being at the seaside but on a Coral island! Explore Typhoon Lagoon >
Shark Reef
Typhoon Lagoon’s Shark Reef is the perfect place for snorkelling whether you are an expert or a beginner. It is a huge artificial coral reef stocked with thousands of tropical fish, including sharks of the none-biting variety. It is open to all above the age of 5 and there can be fewer pleasant experiences than to cool off from the hot Florida sun than lazily swimming around, surrounded by colourful tropical fish with the odd stingray or shark to admire close up and personal. There’s an upturned sunken tanker that divides the reef, and if you prefer you can view the marine life and the snorkellers from its outside portholes. At the warmest times of the year, supplied-air snorkelling lessons are available. All the equipment you need to swim in the Shark Reef tank is provided at no additional charge. There is also an opportunity to learn the SAS (Supplied Air Snorkelling) system but this is charged for. If you are interested, check with Guest Services or at Hammer Head Fred's Dive Shop. Explore Typhoon Lagoon >
Mayday Falls
At Typhoon Lagoon, there are 3 separate rides down ‘waterfalls’ and Mayday Falls is the fastest and longest. You ride on your own personal inner tube down its almost 150 yard stretch of curves which pass through tunnels and under waterfalls. You gain quite a respectable terminal velocity before your plunge into the calm pool below. It’s sufficiently fast for it to be unsuitable for younger children but everybody else will have fun. - Check what is and what is not provided by contacting the Guest Services of Typhoon Lagoon
- Rent a locker for your personal belongings
- Decide whether to book a surfing or snorkeling lesson for yourself or child before you go.
