Exeter with Kids

The capital city of Devon, Exeter combines centuries old historic buildings with a vibrant and energetic student population to give you and your family lots to see and experience. The largest and possibly oldest attraction in Exeter is its cathedral, yet its what lies beneath here and beyond that will interest the children more. A guided tour of Exeter’s Underground medieval passages is ... fascinating and it’s located in the heart of the city’s shopping and leisure. In Exeter’s centre you’ll find some great child friendly dining places, such as Fresha with free Wifi as well as The Book Rest with lots of books and toys for the kids to enjoy. There’s also the free Royal Albert Memorial Museum with exotic animal, birds and insects displays to amuse the children for a couple of hours. If you’re feeling energetic then head for either Clip n Climb or The Quay for some climbing fun with the family. Just outside Exeter there’s loads of great days out to be had in and around Exeter like Topsham open-air pool, Bicton Park Botanical Garden and Powderham Castle. In addition to these there’s the National Trust’s Castle Drogo with beautiful gardens to picnic in. Alternatively you can try Haldon Forest for cycling and walking no matter what your ability. Exeter for families on holiday has lots of offer, so it's no wonder the city’s family-focussed accommodation is first class. There’s caravan for hire at Webbers Country Park and lodges at Dartmour Edge in addition to an ample range of independent and brand hotels in and around the city. For the ultimate weekend away with the kids you can even camp at Crealy Adventure Park – Exeter’s theme park. Go inland in Devon to Exeter with kids and you won’t be disappointed. Read more >
