Family Days Out in Bedford

Come to Bedford for a fun-filled family day out! As the county town of Bedfordshire there’s always plenty going on and Bedford is an attractive place to visit with the River Great Ouse passing right through the middle of the town, lined by a series of gardens known as The Embankment. And it’s along this riverbank that the UK’s second biggest outdoor festival is held every other year. The River Festival is a huge get-together of live music, funfairs and sports events and regularly attracts over 250,000 visitors. Famous inhabitants of Bedford include the writer John Bunyan and it was while imprisoned in Bedford Gaol for 12 years in 1660 that he wrote the famous literary landmark Pilgrim’s Progress. And you can step right back into Bunyan’s time with a visit to Bedford’s Moot Hall & Village Green which has retained many of its original features and is a wonderful spot for a family picnic. Another great spot to check out is Wild Britain where the little ones can get close to nature and have plenty of fun on a series of animal-themed play-trails. And if they’re still bursting with energy after all that then why not take them over to Bedford’s very own Oasis Beach Pool, a swimming centre with slides, flumes, water cannons and even outdoor rapids!
