Marston Vale Millennium Country Park overview

The Marston Vale Millennium Country Park is just a few miles drive outside Bedford and Milton Keynes. It is a huge area of grassland and wetland with over five miles of traffic-free paths for both ... cyclists and walkers. You can even rent a bicycle. Entrance to the park is free but there is wetland nature reserve with a wetland trail where you can and watch the birdlife from one of the hides. Entry to this reserve has a small entry charge. Extra attractions include an adventure playground and a sensory garden.

Marston Vale Forest Centre

The Forest Centre is a great way to take little kids out to spend time in a forest environment. It's easy to park and get the little ones into their pushchairs or onto their bikes. The paths for the circular walks are paved and easy for prams and little feet. And there is a great (although a little pricy) cafe for lunch or tea and cake, with toilets and baby-changing facilities next door. The main negative points are that the playground isn't large and there aren't any swings (considered a serious negative by my two). The outside picnic area is also right on the lake with no fence so you have to keep a close eye on your toddlers. But overall, a good way to get out into the fresh air and nature with your little ones.
