Windsor Castle overview

Windsor Castle is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world and is located in the town centre of Windsor within easy access off major motorways including the M25 and M4. It is where Her ... Majesty The Queen currently resides and is set within 13 acres of land and includes state apartments, St George’s Chapel, the burial of 10 monarchs and containing national treasures. Its a great place to take the kids giving them the chance to learn the history of the castle and watch the guards march. Once you have bought tickets you can visit as often as you would like throughout the rest of the year to really get your moneys worth. The castle also holds exhibitions throughout the year which you can check on their website. As Windsor Castle is a working royal palace and so opening times can change at short notice so make sure you check before you visit to avoid disappointment. Other facilities include full access for disabled visitors, audio commentary in foreign languages, tours and demonstrations, gift shops and toilets.

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle in Berkshire is an interesting place to take children, but it is better for children over the age of five as some of the areas of the castle are a bit difficult to negotiate with a buggy. At the castle children can see rooms that Kings and Queens have lived which are decorated in a manner befitting the time. For example you can visit the state apartments, there is also a special tour of the great kitchen where you can see areas not usually open to the public. Snacks are available to buy and there are also toilets and baby changing facilities

Day at the Castle

"We visited the Windsor Castle a few months ago and had a really good time. Our tickets can be used for 12 months after, which is great. There was so much to see and learn about inside and the castle was immaculate. We saw the guards marching inside and out which our kids loved. It was so interesting walking through all the rooms and there were great views from the paths at the top of the castle. They do tour guides through audio sets in different languages but our daughter wanted to talk the whole way round so we didn't bother. There was one bit where we couldnt take the pram but everywhere was fine so there were no problems there. You can get refreshments and there is a little shop also. We will probably try to go back before our tickets expire."
