Wandlebury Country Park overview
Wandlebury Country Park encompasses about 110 acres of woodland and chalk grassland a few miles from the centre of Cambridge. The site has a fascinating history, steeped in legend and folklore, and ...
is managed by Cambridge Past, Present and Future. Wandlebury Country Park is on the site of an Iron Age hill fort, the remains of which is Wandlebury Ring, now a shady circular walk which would have been the ditch surrounding the Iron Age fort. For those interested in British horseracing, the grave of Godolphin Arabian, one of the three stallions brought to England in the 17th century, and ancestor of many of today’s thoroughbred horses, lies in the grounds. Though facilities are limited, this is a fantastic place for families with children of all ages, who love the outdoors. There are over 8 miles of walks and nature trails through woodland and over chalk grassland. Many organised activities and family fun days are held throughout the year, including orienteering, guided walks and nature / conservation projects. Take a family picnic to Wandlebury Country Park and enjoy!
Nature trails and family picnics

This is one of our favourite local parks. There are about 8 miles of trails to walk around, through woodland and grassland grazed by HIghland cattle. There is a large flat recreation area for ball games and picnics, close to a wooded area where my children love to make dens. The park is very popular in the summer with families, as there is no entrance fee, just a small parking charge. The park is the site of an ancient iron age fort and also has links to British horseracing. The facilities are limited to a cloakroom and information post, with emphasis being on nature and conservation. There are organised activities throughout the year. Last summer we went on a bat walk at dusk, learnt a lot about bats and made a bat box to take home. There are also outdoor theatre performances in the summer. We love this place!
