The Plaza overview

The Plaza in Stockport was built in 1932 and is one of the last remaining art deco super cinemas of its type. This grand cinema and theatre has an Egyptian themed interior with gold ceilings and ... murals and a highly ornamental auditorium. Showing a regular mix of cinema, music and live theatre and of course an annual pantomime, the Plaza also has a beautifully restored cafe open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Great for low key family shows, but not our favourite place.

Stockport Plaza is fantastic for family events. We have often noticed that a lot of productions which aren't available at other locations throughout the North West somehow make their way to the plaza. Although it is an old building it has recently been restored, and to be honest, the age is part of the charm - you feel like you've landed on a local treasure. The cafe serves simple, but lovely food and at a reasonable price. Be aware though, if you do pick a children's show which is on the Sunday (as we have) the cafe won't be open so plan somewhere else to eat. Facilities aren't as nice as other theatres we've been to, and we never really choose Stockport Plaza unless the show of choice isn't on anywhere else - The Lowry and Opera House are much more accessible for us, and we prefer them.
