Killhope overview
Killhope in Upper Weardale was once famous for its lead mining industry. Today you can find out what it was like to be a part of that industry with a tour around its fully restored nineteenth century lead mine with its huge water mill and working machinery. The kids will especially enjoy getting kitted out in hard hats, cap-lamps and wellies. Afterwards you can enjoy a lovely walk around ...
Killhope's woodland paths, looking out for the Red Squirrels and enjoying the fact that none of your family have to earn a living under the ground. By the way the Mine’s cafe sells good home made soups, pasties and cakes.
A great family day out

Killhope is an alround old fashioned day out. Children have fun and generally get wet and mucky. The place is hands on and alot is outside or underground. You can find your own minerals and see red squirrels as well as find out about vicorian miners
