Ullswater and Aira Force overview
The area around Ullswater and Aira Force offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District, and is perfect for family walks. Visit Wordsworth Point in Glencoyne Bay in springtime to ...
catch a glimpse of the sight that inspired Wordsworth to write his famous “Daffodils” poem - daffodils still fill the meadow by the shore. Don’t miss the Aira Force waterfall, a spectacular natural beauty spot, known and much loved since Victorian times. There are numerous walks in the Ullswater area of the Lake District National Park. These range from casual strolls through Hartsop Village and around Brotherswater Lake, to more challenging walks for the hardy – pack a rucksack with a picnic and a rain coat (just in case) and take your pick!
Fantastic waterfall!

We spent a day driving around this part of the Lake District and stopping at regular intervals to explore the many footpaths along the way. The highlight of the day was definitely the Aira Force Waterfall. My daughter has “a thing” about waterfalls – we always try and find one wherever we go! It must be to do with the sound of water – whether it’s a bubbling brook or a roaring cascade, it somehow just raises all our spirits! The walk along the path to Aira Force is not easy, and it is quite steep, uneven and slippery at some parts, so it is not suitable for pushchairs. However if you can make it, it is well worth the effort. It took about an hour to get to the waterfall from the car park, and we then spent about an hour just enjoying getting our feet wet (not recommended for very young children!)
