Dartmouth Castle overview
Dartmouth Castle was built in 1338 and overlooks the beautiful Dart Estuary and the historical naval town of Dartmouth. It has a well-preserved 'gun tower', exhibitions, guard rooms, cannons, ...
gardens, cinema with film sequence and you can climb to the top for breathtaking views across the estuary. Facilities include toilets, car park, shop and Tea Rooms which are privately owned. Please note that the amount of steps make it unsuitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Small - but good guns and views

It’s quite a quick bit of entertainment this one. Had we not been Heritage members and got in for free, I might have been a little miffed at the speed with which you cover the castle. Good views down the Dart though and some excellent cannon, the chain pulling thing was a great hit. There’s a lot of good winding along paths high up in battlements in the cliffs to be done, and from one of the towers there’s a mermaid you can spot. Someone has put a bronze statue of a life size mermaid sitting quietly on the end of their jetty and although it’s quite near to the castle, it can take some spotting. Very good scones too…
