Studland Beach & Nature Reserve overview
If your family is one for the great outdoors then this will more than suit you in any season. In summer there are glorious sandy beaches stretching for more than 3 miles with cliffs to explore and ...
sand dunes for the kids to roll in. In the remaining ' don't forget to pack the anorak' seasons there are well set out trails through this Natural Trust haven of woodland, heath and marshland with wild flowers to enjoy and hides from which to watch the many species of birds. There are also strategically placed cafes so if you don't pack a picnic you wont starve!
A national nature treasure

Tired of beaches overlooked by amusement arcades or fed-up of paddling your way through people’s rubbish left on the beach, or maybe you just fancy a change from the norm? The National Trust’s Studland Beach is a breath of fresh air. It’s a series of threes beaches that also a nature reserve, and that’s just about it. No gimmicks just a wonderful setting with safe and clean beaches. You’ll probably need a car to reach Studland. I think you can get a bus from Swanage or Poole to the village of Studland village and then walk down to the beach. We’ve visited both Middle and South beaches and both sites have toilets (with baby changing), as well as cafes serving children’s meals. It would be worth pointing out that you’ll be at a disadvantage with a buggy or pram here. At the Knoll Beach you can hire beach-friendly buggies. Each time we’ve been we’ve also enjoyed a bbq on the beach although best to check the website for details on this and taking dogs. My husband loves this part (something about man and fire comes to mind) of coming to Studland. The beaches are very popular with families and Studland does become crowded in the summer although we noticed that everyone seems to leave the beach at about 4.30pm. If you stay after this time you can particularly have the sea and sand to yourself, as we did. Take the picnic, essential supplies, and a wind break, and go early to enjoy Studland – I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Beautiful sandy beach

We couldn't resist seeing Studland, as it had been recommended. So the family and I packed up and headed there from Swanage for the day.
When we got there, we found we had the choice of beaches - Knoll Beach, Middle Beach and South Beach.
We picked Middle Beach, for no real reason and we weren't disappointed. The beach is fabulous! A sandy beach that goes around the bay. It has lovely views of the Isle of Wight too. The beach is shallow enough, that you can walk out about 30m into the sea and it will still only reach your knees (well, mine anyway). Great for the children.
We took a few drinks with us, but discovered that there is a not-too-pricey cafe there, along with toilets and outside showers too.
The drive from London wasn't that bad, so we're thinking of doing a daytrip back to Studland during the summer holidays.
