Abbotsbury Swannery overview
For any child interested in birds this is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans and if it is the right time of the year you will ...
see hundreds of fluffy cygnets hatch from eggs in nests on or near the pathways. Mass feeding sessions are held every day and some children may be asked to help feed the swans.

This was an unexpected bonus on a bolt from a very wet campsite – it was a great day. It began with a little tractor ride, then a go around the willow maze, then hours spent talking to a guy who was whittling walking sticks with swan heads. The swannery itself is beautiful, paddling around under the trees and then the whole thing opens out into the great inland lake filled with a blizzard of swans, that you are allowed to feed. The café just outside the gates was excellent and the shop is avoidable…!
