This is a very good way of making something informative and educational very appealing. The museum is small (but perfectly formed) the newly built interactive exhibition is a real hit with the smalls - it has films, games and even a Norman broadsword to heft about. There are acres of remarkably beautiful grounds, about 100 I think, including the actual battlefield, and my kids particularly enjoyed the neat phone-like gizmo with a specially written tour for kids (aimed at 6-13 year olds). The dank and dripping undercrofts of the abbey are great for running spookily through and the beautiful buttery vaults of the newly restored abbey ruins give the parents a bit of a lift whilst also being good running territory. At the end of it all there’s an infuriatingly well stocked shop and special mention must be given to Cathy at the café who not only makes the superb – and healthy – food, but is immensely child-friendly!
