Brighton Pier overview
Brighton Pier was built between 1891 and 1899 to replace the original Chain Pier. It has undergone many phases of construction and refurbishment since then, most recently in 1984. Now a grade 2 ...
listed building, it juts 1,722 ft into the sea and offers a range of exciting fairground attractions, amusement arcades, as well food outlets, a forecourt, pubs and even a convention centre. Many pieces of history remain on the pier including some of the original kiosks, a signal cannon from the Old Chain Pier and filigree ironwork arches that graced the original structure. Admission to the pier is free, and all of the attractions operate on a token based system which can be purchased at kiosks up and down the pier. There are even specialist attractions for very young children and toddlers.
A great free pier - lots of things to do

We have visited Brighton Pier many many times with our child and its always a hit with him. There's lots to see and do and its a nice stroll along the pier to the attractions at the end. There are quite a few rides including some for older children ("thrill rides"), traditional rides like the helter skelter, dodgens and waltzer and rides for younger children like the cup and saucer and carousel. Food wise - there are lots of options but we always, always get fish and chips! Beware though, the queue is sometimes large and you may struggle to find a bench in busy periods (although you could always go and sit on the beach!). There's plenty of side stalls and arcade games too in the two main buildings. There are toilets on the pier too.

but there is not a lot for the little ones to do and it gets very busy. I would echo that there are a lot of teenagers there which can be intimidating

A great pier

We have always enjoyed visiting the pier but now that my son has got older it’s the fairground rides that interest him most. At first he just used to watch them but now he can’t wait to have a go. You pay by tokens and they are not that cheap but you can get a day pass if you think you will be using a lot of the attractions. The crazy mouse rollercoaster is a favourite and also the log flume (though take a raincoat for this one!). There are also the standard rides such as the ghost train, waltzer and dodgems which are great fun. We usually finish off with fish and chips from the main restaurant on the pier. Lovely on a warm evening.

Brighton Pier is very popular and always busy during the summer, however, unless you like arcade games and fairground rides, there is not much else to offer. Teenagers seem to love it here, but we found the area along the beach preferable. The arcade areas on the Pier are loud and busy; the fair area is fun, but still rather loud! There are lots of quirky souvenir stalls, rock shops and a large fish and chip restaurant in the centre. We liked the stroll along the walk ways but didn’t like the cheesy songs pumped out through the speakers!

Brighton Pier is fun for tourists, but gets a little tedious after a few visits! The kids love the painted pictures you can put your head through and the ‘penny machines’ although I found it all a little loud and busy. At the end of the pier there are some great views and nice bars to sit out front and watch the ‘Pier life’. The kids love trying to win toys and playing the ‘fishing’ games at the fun fair. The crepe stall, located in the Brighton Pier entrance sold brilliant crepes, our favourite was Nutella and banana!

We visit Brighton a lot as we love ‘The Lanes’ with its boutique shops and lovely restaurants. Even though we have been here numerous times we always find the time to take a stroll down the pier. The children love it here and there is the fun amusement park at the end. Our daughter loves the mini dodgems, oh, and my husband! We always make sure we take a bag of 1 & 2p coins as both the children love the slot machines in the arcade. Our favourite bit of the pier is the excellent fish and chip shop which is a real treat although I think the children would say the sweet shop which sells every sweet imaginable!

We spent a great afternoon on the pier over the weekend playing arcade games, as well as traditional fairground games like the coconut shy and at the fairground itself which is located right at the very end of the pier. Our youngest was too small for the bigger thrills but there is an area nearby with about 5 or 6 rides aimed at smaller kids and toddlers that kept them entertained. They even have mini-bumper cars which my eldest daughter and her cousin loved. We spent around 20 quid on tokens between 4 children, which was more than enough; but we also found out that you can buy a wristband for a fiver that allows younger kids unlimited access to the junior rides. We rounded off the day with hot ring-doughnuts and a stick of rock.

We have visited the pier many times with our son and each time it’s great fun. There’s a very lively atmosphere with music playing and plenty of tourists. There are 2 arcade areas - the first more traditional and the one further down the pier more modern with machines aimed at the children. They give tickets which can then be swapped for various prizes on offer.
At the very end of the pier is a fairground for older children with dodgems, a waltzer, rollercoasters and a log-flume ride. For the younger ones there is a helter skelter, trampolines and a small merry-go-round.
There is plenty of food on offer here with the excellent fish and chips being our favourite. There are lots of benches along the pier so you can sit and look out to sea whilst eating your lunch.
It is free to go onto the pier which makes it a must do if you are in Brighton. During the summer they put on special events for the kids and on Saturday nights they often have fireworks too.
