Blue Reef Aquarium overview
The Blue Reef chain of aquariums has taken over the somewhat dilapidated old attraction in Hastings and made a superb day out for children. In the atmospherically lit tanks and open water displays ...
there are all sorts of underwater beauties and ghoulies to excite and horrify children. From the local sharks (large dog fish) to the sea horses, via a poisonous octopus and a giant lobster, there is plenty to see and a good offering of interactive information games by the tanks. The Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium has a glass tunnel through one of the biggest tanks, with the fish swimming around and above the squealing children. There are also trained members of staff wandering around with such excitements as vast crabs to touch and hold who stop and deliver informative but entertaining short talks. There is a café and (naturally) a shop and children under three get in for free.
Lovely aquarium

We went here with a 4 month old, a 20 month old and an 8 year old and they all loved it. It's just the right size and has the Nemo fish as well as some bigger fish - a shark and a giant octopus. Good value and a cafe overlooking the sea (and the car park).

This is a great Day out. The aquarium is fun, not too big, but with enough in its tanks to entertain children of all ages. It’s dark in there for a start which is fun, and the tanks are full of spider crabs, star fish, glow-in-the-dark-jelly fish, and all sorts of other magnetically frightening stuff, alongside the underwater beauties like the tropicals and the sea horses. There’s a big tank with small sharks and rays in it, open topped which adds to the excitement, and a two foot lobster caught off the beach at Hastings! The info games are entertaining enough to keep them playing and we had a hold and a squeal at a vast prickly crab which was part of a demonstration and (highly informative) little lecture. The shop is not too full of sweets and the café is fine. But one of the best things about the Blue Reef Aquarium at Hastings is where it is – right on the beach where the Hastings fishing fleet pulls itself up onto the pebbles, so after the sharks you get great machines hauling big boats up onto the beach, not to mention superb fresh fish!
