Colchester Zoo overview

From Aardvarks (there was a baby one born here last Christmas) to Zebras, they are all here in this stunningly designed, animal friendly (and child-friendly!) zoo. There is so much to see that you ... may not even have time for the Adventure Play Park also on offer.

Colchester Zoo

Colchester Zoo is a very popular place to take children it has a wide variety of animals such as elephants, giraffes and lions. It is a very large zoo and has lots of facilities for families such as eating places, picnic areas and play areas. There are also lots of toilets and changing areas around the zoo. One negative thing I would say about the zoo, however, is that it is not always that easy to walk around with a buggy as some areas are quite hilly and difficult to negotiate. There is also a large gift shop at the exit which you have to walk through to get out of the zoo so you are practically guaranteed to have to buy something as you leave!

A zoo keeper for the day

Young or old everyone likes to visit a zoo so my 13 year old was thrilled to become a zoo keeper for a day. Colchester zoo has everything for children and we have always found the staff absolutely fantastic. My daughter had an amazing day and helped to feed the penguins in front of the many visitors who were watching. She also was able to meet the sea lions and helped to clean out some monkeys. Colchester zoo will tailor this experience to the age and ability of your child. I believe it is even possible to help with the lions if you have a child who is brave. Much money has been recently spent on Colchester Zoo and it is very child friendly. There is an amazing array of animals from the tiny reptiles to the giant elephants. Because there is so much here it is a good idea to buy a gold card so that you can visit as much as you want for a year. It is also possible to use Tesco vouchers. There are plenty of play areas for the children to let off steam around the zoo and there are lots to do inside if it is raining. This has to be one of the best zoos in the country.

COLCHESTER ZOO

This was the best value for money day out we have had for a while. It was great fun for our child and for us. There is a great variety of things to keep all ages of children entertained for the whole day. We kept the cost down by taking a picnic and there were some lovely places to eat lunch. Very child friendly.
