Butterfly World overview

Butterfly World is situated just off of the M25/M1 at St Albans, Herts. Currently in 'phase IV' it already has much to offer the visitor with gardens, play areas, a tropical butterfly house, and much ... more. Next year the planned enormous Biome is due for completion.

Butterfly World is a charming and pretty place, and we found much to explore and do. The designer gardens are lovely to wander through with their unique assortment of wild flowers and unusual sculptures, and in the large flower pot building story-telling and craft sessions are available. A trail weaves through the pretty meadows leading to a 'natural' play area, which includes a very groovy sand pit that's dug into the hillside. The tropical butterfly house is home to 60 different species of butterflies that fly happily around you, and finally there's tthe brand new 'Ant World' where leaf carrying ants run along ropes, and cockroaches and tarantulas live together to demonstrate the food chain - uhh! Butterfly World has been designed with families and young children in mind so it's easy to get around and the facilities are good. there's a spacious cafe and a shop selling a range of nature related pocket money items. For myself and my children (5, 8 and 10) four hours went by effortlessly and we found the experience to be enjoyable and educational. I can't wait for next year when the Biome is ready. At 20 pounds for a family of four, it's good value, plus parking is easy and free.
