Old Holly Farm overview

Old Holly Farm is a free open farm with a medium sized collection of animals plus other appealing attractions. The farm offers children the chance to be hands-on with baby animals such as chicks ... as well as rabbits and other small animals. As well as the smaller variety of animal, the farm also keeps goats, cows, donkeys, sheep and delightful pigs (two of which are named Rhubarb and Custard). Reindeer appear seasonally at Old Holly Farm. When they make an appearance a small fee is charged to enter the attraction. In addition to the animals, children are able to enjoy the Playbarn soft-play area which is multi-level and joins onto a cafe for parents and carers to relax while children are playing. The farm shop sells small items such as sweets, ice-creams and preserves, for example. Minimum spend for card use is 10 GBP. Old Holly Farm is located on the outskirts of Preston and Lancaster, in a town called Garstang, just off the M6. A bus route which connects Lancaster and Preston also stops outside Old Holly Farm, making it accessible to those families who don't drive, or for a group day out with no cars.

A lovely little farm

Despite, on paper, the Old Holly Farm being located in Preston - Garstang is just a ten minute drive from the centre of Lancaster. Old Holly Farm is unbelievably free for adults and children alike. You can visit all of the animals, pet the baby chicks and rabbits and mingle with the 'moo-cows' all for absolutely nothing at all! The animals are obviously well looked after which is always lovely to see when you visit farms and zoos. There is a wide array of animals from small horses, sheep, cows, pigs and reindeer to smaller lovelies such as rabbits, chicks and little mice that you can buy for just £1 each! There is a little farm shop and a cafe. As the farm is free entry, the owners do ask that you don't bring your own food and/or drink onto the farm. If you get peckish or thirsty the cafe is really well priced and has a lovely little selection of goodies. For £4 you can let your child run wild in a deceivingly huge indoor play area with adjoining cafe. This is quite honestly the cleanest smelling indoor play area I've ever been in. Not a whiff of sweaty feet or the usual grossness. Your child can run about for as long as they like for the entry price. The playbarn is also home to Mother and Toddler groups for £3, details are on the website. The farm/play barn also caters for parties and school trips. The farm also make their own cheeses and ice-cream which you can buy from the dairy.
