Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre & Country Park overview

Set in the heart of the countryside, visit the Bosworth Battle and Heritage Centre to learn all about its place in history. The Battle of Bosworth in 1485 marked the end of the War of The Roses - ... the death of King Richard III and the start of the Tudor Era, one of the most famous periods in British History. There is something for everyone here, a walk around the famous battlefield, A Heritage centre where you can learn all about the battle and its main, as well as the Tithe Barn Restaurant and a small gift shop. There are numerous events held throughout the year, see the website for details.

We didn't have to battle for a great day out.

My Eldest Son is studying the Tudors at school at the moment, and its always been one of my favourite periods of history, so we decided to visit the site of the Battle of Bosworth. It really is a beautiful area and so nice to be away from the city. There is plenty of parking which costs £2.50 for the day. Make sure you have the change though. There is a Heritage Centre which has an exhibition about the battle - we didnt go in as I didnt think it would appeal to my younger children and it was a bit pricey £7.50 for adults and £4.50 for children. However we learnt so much on our walk round the battlefield that we didnt miss out - the walk is just under 2 miles in lovely countryside and woods. Every so often on the route there is a display which tells you about the battle, the weapons used and the people that fought in it. It was a really nice walk and we managed to combine exercise, fresh air and education all in one go. There is some really nice places to picnic or a restaurant if you want to eat out instead. Looking at the website there are many events on throughout each month (normally for a small extra charge). We were lucky enough that our visit coincided with the Owl Encounter - this was the children's favourite bit of the day as them managed to get up close and personal with the owls, having a go at getting them to fly at them. The lady who led the encounter talked for about an hour about the birds and all the children were enthralled. We had a great day and we will definitely be going back soon.
