Cleethorpes Beach overview

Cleethorpes Beach can be found on the north east coast of Lincolnshire, where the River Humber enters the North Sea. Cleethorpes is a popular traditional seaside resort with over three miles of sandy ... beaches. The promenade is popular with visitors who are able to pick up an ice cream or bucket and spade from the many shops and kiosks on their way to the beach. The name Cleethorpes comes from the old Scandinavian 'Clee-thorp' meaning hamlets near Clee. The place name Clee is taken from the old English word, which referred to the clay soil. Tourists and visitors can park beside the promenade, and access all the restaurants, arcades and shops close by. There are toilet and wash facilities are available along the beach. Cleethorpes Pier opened in 1873, and the promenade in 1885. The Greenwich Meridian passes through the town and a signpost shows some interesting information in miles...North Pole 2,517, South Pole 9,919 miles!

Life's a 'Cleethorpes Beach'!

Cleethorpes Beach is right on our doorstep and is a wonderful free day out. Going down to the beach (on a sunny day!) armed with sun block, lunch and buckets and spades is great fun and enjoyed by the whole family. From sandcastle building competitions between the 'grown ups' and the children to a game of cricket to covering dad in as much sand as possible! On a cooler day we can still enjoy a walk down the promenade. After a big Sunday lunch, we walk the dog and the children love biking along by the sea. Cleethorpes Beach is very well looked after and always clean. The gardens around the roadside are always beautifully stocked with pretty plants and flowers.
