In Victorian times families vied with each other to provide the best marbled memorials to their loved ones who had passed on .This cemetery provides some of the best examples of funeral monuments in Britain. An interesting, but maybe a little ghoulish way to pass an hour or so.Admission

Quite a macabre place to visit for a day out, nevertheless, it's a serene place, full of intersting historical tidbits. It's much bigger than you think so assume that a couple of hours to wander through the cemetery is enough. There's also some amazing views over London so try to pick a nice day to visit. Younger kids definitely won't appreciate the historical importance of it all - we took our 4 year old - but they will enjoy rambling through the cemetery, playing hide and seek, I-spy and so on. We finished up across the road at the William IV pub for a pint - lovely!
