London Eye overview

This is an absolute must for any family holiday in London. This gigantic Ferris wheel on the Thames Embankment is London's most popular visitor attraction. No wonder, as the breathtaking ride high in ... the sky above London lets you see up to 25 miles in all directions. It takes about 30 minutes to do the full circle so you will have plenty of time to spot landmarks while your children take the photos.

A tourist must-do

We took our 2 year old on the London Eye on an unusually hot October day. The queue was fairly long but moved quickly despite them having a problem with card payments that day. The 4d film that you can watch before you go on the wheel is nice. It is only about 5 minutes long which is long enough when you have to hold 3d glasses on a toddlers head! The wheel itself took about 30 minutes to do a whole rotation which actually went fairly quickly. We paid the few extra £ to get the map so we could work out what all the building were and I'd definitely say that was worth it. I do think it's quite expensive and not something you'd do more than once or twice but I think it's something really nice to go on as a treat.

Worth the wait.

The London Eye is as the title says worth the wait, which can be quite long at busy times. The pods are large and hold up to 20 people. It takes 25 minutes to go the full circle, the views are stunning and seeing big ben grow smaller is quite surreal. It is expensive for a family unless you have 241 tickets or Merlin cards. Plenty of young children about and they all seemed quite impressed with the eye.

Probably for older children

the queues were very long and there was some drama about leaving the pushchair, however the ride itself was great. Plenty of room to walk around and just the right length, the green outside is a good spot for a picnic and then a wander down the southbank to the Tate

The London Eye

The London Eye is a fantastic way to spend 30 minutes sightseeing. The views of London are unsurpassed and you get a real birds eye view of some of London's most famous landmarks. A £3 brochure is a must as if points out which buildings are which. A family ticket costs £52.15 when booked online and yes it is expensive, but so worth it. Yes the queue does seem quite big, but it goes down really quickly. We had a fantastic time. You do need to fold down all buggies before boarding though.

London Eye

We took out daughter on the London eye when she was nearly four years old. I was a bit worried that the height would worry her but it didn’t phase her one little bit. The views are absolutely breath taking and the capsules move so slowly that you barely realise they are moving. Inside, it is really spacious and you don’t feel claustrophobic at all. It was lovely to be able to point out different landmarks in our capital and also where daddy works! We were watching the t.v the other day and my daughter shouted out “look mummy, there’s Saint Paul’s Cathedral”. I was so impressed that she had remembered what we had told her! An educational experience too!

High In The Sky With The London Eye

The London Eye is a fantastic trip for anyone of any age. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it offers fantastic views of the surrounding City. We pre-booked which is advisable at busy times. Beinga Sunday, we drove in but it is easily accessible via tube and bus links. Our queue time was short - about 10 minutes and as it wasn't too busy we were in a capsule of about 15 people - 8 of whom were our party. This gave us lots of space and we wee able to take in the views. It was warm though and this was only spring - I would imagine in summer it could be quite unbearable, particularly for the elderly or very young AND you are asked not to eat or drink on board. There is seating for those who don't want to stand but it is in the centre, so you do miss the best views. Photos are taken at the end but at £10 a pop, I thought this was quite steep. However, well worth a trip and great to point out the sights to the children.

Views lost on the kids!

This is my fourth time on the wheel and I love it - despite the vertigo. I bought tickets on the back of a deal whilst we were visiting the Aquarium below and took two 6 year olds and 4 year old. To be honest I think we would be better to wait a few years till they were older, as the splendour of London was somewhat lost on my lot. And, you almost need to have been to some of the places you can see (Buckingham Palace, St Paul's, etc) to understand what you are looking at. Beyond the excitement of going up high and being in a giant ferris wheel we could have been anywhere and that's a lot of money to pay for 'anywhere'. It is amazing and so I've given it 3 stars however make sure you get a deal for the kids tickets and the weather is with you (it rained for us), otherwise it's pricey.

London Eye, London

The London Eye is a good place to take children – providing they don’t need a buggy! I went last year with my baby and 4 year old and whilst queuing I was told that I needed to fold down my buggy as we weren’t allowed to take it on the eye open. This proved to be quiet difficult as I had to carry the baby as well as all our bags whilst my mum had to carry the buggy and also watch my 4 year old! Other than that the ride lasts 30 minutes and the views were spectacular so it is well worth a visit.

I went with my children last year to the London Eye and I wouldn’t recommend it for a day out because the time spent on it isn’t very long! The London Eye is a strange attraction and quite expensive too. My children all wanted to go on the London Eye but were bored after a few minutes because there is nothing to go but look out of the 360 degree windows. This is fascinating for a few minutes and you can spread out the time by taking lots of pictures. We are pleased we went and strangely would even like to go again but at night to see the lights. Book in advance online to see the London Eye as even with advance tickets the queues are huge.

A wonderful adventure

Taking our 1 and 3 year old on the London Eye was the highlight of our New Years Break in the Capital. They absolutely loved it; it was great spotting all the sights of interest. There was a long queue after we had bought the tickets but there is a playground opposite that my husband took the kids to while I queued. Just up the river there is a restaurant called Girraffe which again was great with small children, fantastic healthy food and reasonable prices.

Fantastic views!

If ever you're paying a visit to the capital, a trip on the London Eye is a must. It was only ever meant to be a temporary feature but thankfully it's here to stay. You get fantastic views over the city especially if you're lucky enough to visit on a clear day. The queues can be bad so it's worth pre-booking if you can. Children under 4 go free of charge, children aged 4 to 15 pay £8.75, and it's £17.50 for adults (and teenagers 16+). Yes it's expensive but it really is an unforgettable experience. If you time it around lunch there are also a number of Child friendly restaurants by Southbank.
