If you live in London you can show the children a working farm with a minimum amount of travelling. The farm was created from derelict land by volunteers just a couple of decades ago and is dedicated to showing kids how a farm works. There are milking demonstrations and lots of hands-on-work with the animals, who are friendly and used to being petted. There are also Donkey rides and Pony Care classes.
