Mersey Ferries overview

There are only a few ferries that are world famous; the Manhattan Island in New York, the Star Ferry in Hong Kong and The Mersey Ferry. Of the three, this is by far the most fun for children. The ... round trip takes about an hour and includes a great commentary on the fascinating history of this great port with its listed buildings. Needless to say the background music is provided by the Beatles. The trip includes a stop at Seacombe ferry Terminal where you could possibly have a visit to Spaceport, a space themed attraction.

Ferry cross the Mersey

I wanted to take my children to the Science Museum in Liverpool because I read it was really fun for kids. I thought a nice way to start would be to take the ferry to Liverpool from Woodside in Birkenhead. The way we did it was to take a River Explorer Cruise. The children enjoyed being on the ferry, especially the leaving and coming into dock and the Beatles music. We were able to get off in Liverpool and go up to the Museum and then get back on for the rest of the cruise later. It cost just over 10 pounds for the three of us and I think it was really worth it.
