Sandringham Estate overview

A visit to a stately home is always a popular choice for a family day out and Her Majesty the Queen is no exception. The Sandringham estate is where she and her family often come to relax, although ... she does not have to leave at 5.00pm. The house and its stunning gardens are open to the public and there are expert guides to help make your visit both pleasurable and informative. You can park at the visitor centre and either purchase tickets to enable you to explore the house or gardens or just enjoy a long walk through the lovely parkland with its mature trees, farmyards and coastal trail. There is no charge for entry into the Country Park.

A right Royal Day out

Whenever my children and I spend the day at Sandringham we always stay the whole day as it is in such lovely countryside and lots to do. My children are always fascinated with the museum where you can see Prince Charles’ hand built toy racing car. It is a model he could sit in and use and is an accurate model. There are also the vehicles used by the other royal’s as children. There are lots of other models and exhibits to interest your children. We always tour the house itself and although the staff are very friendly, you would not want your children to put their sticky fingers on anything! The house is laid out for a dinner party and has roped walk ways to keep you away from the furniture. Inside the house is definitely not child friendly unless your children are very well behaved and you trust them not to touch anything. Outside is a different matter and there is a massive country park which is free and we have found it is a great place to take bikes. You can eat in the visitor centre but we prefer to take a picnic.
