Battlements to scale, dungeons to explore and a myriad of interesting displays, all within a genuine Norman castle in the centre of town. Norwich Castle is home to Norfolk’s main museum and many ...
great treasures are on view with much to interest children. Much of the castle’s history is explained with the help of excellent computer generated displays. Norwich Castle!

In the heart of Norwich city centre stands the 11th century Norman castle. By far one of the most famous land marks in Norwich. The castle, now a museum, offers an insight to what life was like in the prison, a natural history exhibition, anglo saxon & viking treasures, Queen Boudica's charroit, suits of armour, mummies, regimanetal history and modern art galleries. Take a tour of the castles battlements & down to the dungeons if you dare! There are many hands on stations where you can feel the shell of a tortoise, hear local bridsongs, create coin rubbings and dress as a king or try on a toga, great fun for little ones (and mummies too). We loved that there was a toy staion where under 5's could pick a bucket a fill it with their own little treasures to take around the museum with them. My 2 year old son loved showing mummy an eqyptian mummy close up with a magnifying glass and looking trough binoculars and pointing things out. The history is amazing to learn and absorb for anyone of any age. The museaum had spacious exhibition rooms great for my son to explor freely. There was a large cloack rom with lockers so no need to take the buggy round or all of your bags and coats. Good toilet & changing facilities and a large, modern cafe for refreshments. I thouroghly enjoyed my visit and I'm sure my son did too! There is so much to see you will want to return again and again and you can purchase a great value annual pass for unlimited visits.

Norwich Castle located in the centre of Norwich is a splendid mix of old and new. The new part of the castle includes a spacious, contemporary restaurant with resonable prices, toilets, help desk, shop and wings containing various exhibits. The old is the castle keep, battlements and dungeons.
During the holidays the castle puts on workshops and extra activities however during our visit at the weekend before the holidays there was a spacious table set up in the keep with crayons and colouring books and arts and crafts that my eldest jumped for joy at.
The exhibits are very interesting showing details of the Romans in Norfolk, Boudica, art , animals, the world's largest teapot collection, fashion and the Norfolk Regimental Museum which is attached to the castle with no extra charge for admission via a World War I bunker!
Located throughout the castle are interactive games and activities to try including a ride in Boudica's chariot.
Both my daughter of 3yrs and my toddler had a very enjoyable time, we as parents, came out relaxed which is important!
The castle keep is pretty amazing, with low lighting creating a good atmosphere. The staff are very helpful, eager and knowledgable about the castle which made the experience all the better.
A great time out. I would particularly recommend if you are local to buy a yearly pass as you are then entitled to go into 12 local museums for free whenever you feel like it.
Good to note, they have a brilliant 'pop in for a £1' system where you can visit for the last hour of the day.
The castle also has lovely gardens where you can take a picnic if the weather is good.
All in all a good value day out, perfect when it's raining and great if it's too hot. Lots of interactive stuff for the children, very interesting for adults and loads of room for running around!
