Sherwood Forest Country Park & Visitor Centre overview

Sadly very little remains of this once great forest where Robin Hood and his not so merry men waged war against the wicked sheriff of Nottingham. There are however some ancient oaks that survive ... under whose shade one can enjoy a countryside walk, and afterwards learn a little of the legend of Robin Hood and forest management in the modern Visitor Centre

Robin Hood - Sherwood Forest

Visited with: Infant, Child
We visited Sherwood Forest Country Park on our last day of our holiday in Nottinghamshire. We really enjoyed our walk around the forest and our 6 year old enjoyed the recently built wooden climbing section which is a great break from walking for little ones legs. We also visited Robin's Den a little gift shop near the visitors centre. They sell lovely gifts and treats. We had a walk around the visitors centre and found out some interesting facts about Robin Hood and the forest. There is also a restaurant and cafe there although we didn't eat there. We also went to the major oak which was about a 15 minute walk. It was a lovely day and a lovely walk and I would recommend anyone visiting for a cheap day out. We had our 7 month old with us in the pram and managed to get round the walk OK.

Sherwood Forest

If you like to get out in lots of nice open space and breathe in the fresh air then Sherwood Forest Country Park is the place for you. It has lots of space to run around in and let off some steam, with several mapped out walks for those who prefer to follow a set path. You can also see the Major Oak, where Robin Hood hung out with his Merry Men, although its cordoned off so you cant climb it anymore. There is a visitors centre with a small Robin Hood Exhibition. There is a self-service cafe and there are plenty of toilets and Baby changing facilities at the visitors centre. There is also a Robin Hood shop where you can buy all sorts of things including Bows and Arrows (much to my sons delight). You pay for the Carpark (it was £2.00 last time we went at Christmas) but the park is free, so its a great place for a very cheap day out.
