Ham House overview

This is reputed to be the most haunted house in England. In fact, one of their special events includes a ghost tour! If it is an off day for the ghost, then there is the more reliable trail and quiz ... for the children (and you) around this historic 1600's mansion set in magnificent parkland on the banks of the Thames

Ham House

Ham House and Gardens are situated next to the River Thames in West London – it is a historical house which is about 400 years old and has been preserved so that the public can visit it, the gardens have also been preserved in a similar way. It is now owned by the National Trust and they have decorated the rooms in a C17th style. They also have tea rooms in the garden where they serve really lovely cakes! The house is supposed to be haunted by the Duchess of Lauderdale (who used to own the house) and her dog and my son spent our whole visit looking out for her!

A nice friendly walk!

Ham house is a National Trust property so if you are a member this means you will be able to get in free, if not you will have to pay. We visited on a Spring afternoon and J had great fun exploring the gardens. There are these little lanes type bushes that lead all over the place and we had lots of fun chasing around them seeing where they came out! Its normally pretty quiet and so you can let the kids run riot without worrying too much. We didnttake J in the house as I felt a 3 year old might find that slightly boring. We did however of course make a visit to the cafe which we had a nice slice of cake in and J had a childrens box with numerous items in it which he enjoyed and we took the rest home with us! We had a great time for probably 3-4 hours that we were there, Ham House is also right by the Thames near Richmond so you can always go for a wander along the river after.
