The Deep overview

An Aquarium should be a lot more than watching myriads of pretty coloured fish and the odd shark endlessly circling round and it is certainly not like this in The Deep Hull, this multi-award winning ... aquatic centre. Just a look at the futuristic building gives you an inkling of the care and thought which have been given to the inside displays, Topical themes such as ‘Life in the ice cold Artic waters’, ‘Over-fishing in the North Sea’ and ‘The Interdependence of life in the Oceans’ are explained in easy to understand interactive displays integrated into the huge aquarium pools. Not to be missed.

The Deep - A Missed Opportunity

A great concept but with too many of the interactive fun and games either broken or simply not working, the Deep promises much but fails to deliver. The magnificence of the creatures on display cannot be denied and the opportunity for children to touch and interact with rock pool creatures is fantastic but the Deep has the potential to be much, much more. If someone takes it by the scruff of the neck and helps it reach its true potential it could be a truly world-class attraction. There's hope yet!

Fun & Educational day out for all ages!

We went to The Deep on a wet and windy day during the school holidays, so as expected it was very busy. However, the queue to buy tickets was managed very well and we were quickly inside. A walkway of interactive activities, perfect for older children, greeted us and then on to tank after tank of unusual and exotic sea life. There was a lovely area where children could touch some creatures (starfish etc.) – which the younger children loved! The “feeding of the sharks” show was very crowded and many struggled to see as the viewing windows aren’t huge, but the children all sat on the floor and my little one had an unobstructed view. There were 3D films being shown about underwater sea life and loads to keep the children busy. At the end of the museum you can take the glass lift back up to the exit, viewing hundreds of species as you go – a great experience. There is a fantastic cafe with plenty of choice and a great view over the water, easy access for pushchairs and prams and a packed gift shop for spending pocket money! We even got a free yearly pass with our admission fee!

Amazing and suprisingly relaxing!

Big and small kids alike, the Deep is a full day out for all. Well, I say day out, it's all indoors! A safe and modern building which houses some amazing sights! The children have never been so quiet and consumed as we past all the giant built in fish tanks with an array of coloured fish swimming right past our eyes! Educational and a great excuse to 'chill out' at the same time, The Deep in Hull is worth visiting again and again for its friendly and helpful staff, safe facilities for children of all ages as well as a comfy cafe with light bites and views over the city. You must try the lift through the aquarium at the end of the tour, worth every penny of the entrance fee for that alone!
