Bring your brood to Falmouth for a family day out, home of one of Britain’s most famous harbours. Falmouth harbour is the deepest natural harbour in Western Europe and has been witness to many notable launches and landings throughout its history. News of Britain’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar arrived in Falmouth first and on 2
nd October 1836 HMS Beagle anchored at Falmouth after completing its famous world survey and Darwin came ashore that evening before departing for his home. And more recently Dame Ellen Macarthur’s attempts at solo round-the-world sailing voyages have started or finished at Falmouth. You can learn much more about Falmouth’s maritime history and explore what life is like on the high seas at the
National Maritime Museum Cornwall where there are some great interactive displays and exhibitions designed for families. Alternatively, head to
Falmouth Art Gallery an award-winning collection that is family friendly and free and offers some great arty activities for the kids to get involved with. And of course there are some great walks to be had along the coast, looking out to sea and taking in some breathtaking views.
