Family Days Out in Northumberland

Northumberland has a great variety of family-based fun for your next day out. If the weather happens to be nice then you can’t beat a beautiful journey with Golden Gate Boat Trips who specialise in excursions to the scenic Farne Islands where the kids will enjoy the opportunity to see puffins and grey seals. Being so close to the Scottish border the Northumberland area contains a number of excellent castles many of which have fascinating exhibitions that cater for children and interestingly animate their pasts. One of the best of the bunch is Alnwick Castle which the children might recognise from some of the Harry Potter movies and you might recognise from the Blackadder T.V. series! At Alnwick there’s even the chance for the children to dress up as ladies and lords, practice their swordplay and jousting as knights as well as informative tours from the castle guides. For the younger knights there’s another castle that might be of even more appeal: Castle Mania in Morpeth. Castle Mania is of the soft play variety and has a series of fun, castle-themed activity areas with wobbly rope bridges, slides, climbing frames and swings. So come to Northumberland for a great family day out together.
