Family Days Out in Nottingham
|
Nottingham has a number of great locations for family days out and as the home of the legendary Robin Hood one of the first places to check out is Nottingham Castle where the once famous outlaw’s arch-enemy The Sheriff of Nottingham would plan his next villainous move. Unfortunately the original castle was burnt to the ground a couple of centuries ago but in its place was built the current Nottingham Castle which houses an impressive museum detailing local history and an art gallery that has put on some famous contemporary exhibitions. From the top of Nottingham Castle descend to the depths of Nottingham’s very own City of Caves, an award-winning subterranean guided tour of a series of Anglo-Saxon caves and tunnels built directly under the city. This labyrinthine tour makes for an exciting trip with the help of knowledgeable guides and actors. And if your family still has energy to burn after all that then why not head over to Nottingham Ice Rink. Whether you’re a beginner or fancy yourself as a Torvill or Dean ice skating is great fun and Nottingham has an excellent year-round indoor rink as well as a seasonally scenic one that opens over the Christmas period in the Old Market Square. |
