Dean Castle

We're really quite lucky to stay near a great park. It is literally a 5 minute walk from my house so needless to say it has been a saviour when I've not had any pennies and wanted to take the kids out for something to do. The park is spread over 200 acres and at the centre of it all is the beautiful Dean Castle. Inside you can explore the Castle and see some of the Arms and Armour collection, historical musical instruments and tapestries. The park also has an animal farm park where you can see lambs, goats, ducks, pheasants, rabbits and many other farm animals. There is also a tea room serving hot and cold food so you can grab lunch and a gift shop. Or you can grab a picnic bench and take along your own lunch. There are some fantastic trails in the park that you can walk on and they take you right round the park, across the river and up the hills. Great for tiring the little ones out. To top it all off, there are 2 play grounds with swings, a slide and climbing frames to name a few. They also hold loads of events throughout the year and most of them are free. There are nature trails, bug and bird watching and fun days galore. It really is a great family day out that doesn't have to cost you anything.
