Armadale Castle Gardens overview

Armadale Castle Gardens and the ancestral home of the Clan Donald provides all the essential ingredients for a full family day out. A lovely family castle set in over 40 acres of gardens, with ... guided pathways though mature woodlands overlooking the sea. A modern museum has interactive displays for the kids telling the fascinating history of the islands and an all-day restaurant sells local produce.

Whilst visiting the Isle of Skye with our baby daughter, we didn't have any definate plans until we happened upon Arndale castle and its gardens which isn't far from where the ferry port is. We started our visit by having a lovely walk around the gardens and surrounding woodland. There were several sculptures made out of wood and also nature trails which will keep most children entertained. We decided to pay to gain entrace to the Clan Donald museum which was very reasonably priced. The museum contained lots of information about the clan system and the various clans in Scotland which would be of great interest to anyone researching their scottish ancestry. We did find the material and information in the museum a bit dry as we did not have a particular interest in this subject but this is just a personal preference. It also seems to be aimed at adults rather than children. I would advise families to avoid the museum, unless you have a specific interest in this subject and just enjoy the nature trails.
