Dylan Thomas Boat House overview
The Dylan Thomas Boat House is located on the banks of the Taf estuary and is where he spent the last four years of his life. The house was a gift from his close friend Margaret Taylor and where he ...
found inspiration for his most famous piece 'Under Milk Wood'. The Boat House has now been transformed into a Museum that contains relics of one of Wales’s most famous poets and writers. The Dylan Thomas Boat House also contains recordings of Dylan Thomas speaking, the original furnishings and memorabilia, a Dylan Thomas bookshop, small tearoom, viewing platform and terrace overlooking the Estuary. The cafe provides high chairs and bottle warming facilities, but due to the type of building it is unsuitable for pushchairs. There are toilets with baby changing facilities and car parking but the car park is a ten-minute walk away from the main building.

It is harder to think of a more beautiful setting, than what you will see when you visit the Dylan Thomas Boat House. Set in the cliffs overlooking the Taf estuary, it really is beautiful and it is easy to see how Dylan Thomas was inspired by the place. Once inside there is some fascinating insights and exhibits relating to Dylan Thomas which we really enjoyed. I would say that this is a place for older children as there is not much here apart from the beautiful scenery, to interest younger children. We enjoyed a nice tea in the tea shop in the boat house but it was a little expensive, although entry into the boat house is very reasonable. After visiting the boat house we went for a walk along Pendine sands which is 7 miles of sands, made famous by regular world speed record attempts. This was also very beautiful and worth a visit as it will definately allow your younger children to run around and burn off some energy!
