Welsh Mountain Zoo overview
When the kids get tired of the beach or that sun just hasn't come out, then hop on the free bus and spend the day at the great child friendly Welsh Mountain Zoo, high above Colwyn Bay. Everything is ...
geared for family enjoyment from the Penguin Parade to encounters with monkeys. There is children's farm and Jungle and Tarzan Adventure Playgrounds for the more adventurous. Even the techies in the family are catered for with a Media Centre, where they can do a virtual tour of the Zoo and play some great educational games.
Gem of a zoo

Great first impression as you actually drive through the zoo to the car park so we were vert excited to see bears within a few metres of the gates. We found the map a little hard to read, but it was a wet and windy day so we were trying to dash from one area to another before the map got trashed! Even though it was a cold day there were plenty of active animals and most of those that were trying to sleep through the weather could still be viewed through windows in their 'houses'. We were overjoyed at being the only people at the ring tailed lemurs when a mum and baby put on a special display, and happened to pass a window in the petting area when a baby barn owl was on display. The outdoor play areas were a hit with the 4 yr old and the male adult of our group! The food in the cafe was mainly home made and plentiful, and tables were cleared quickly and cleaned ready for the next user in record time - having worked in catering, I was impressed! I guess we were there for about 3 hours and would definately visit again.

Zoo on a hill.

We really enjoyed our day out here even though the weather wasn't on our side this day. There are plenty of different animals to see with lots of pathways leading you off to even more animals. Lots of walking with lots of hills but it is fun as there are animals along the way. The cafe was very reasonable and had healthy choices as well as the treats. The little gift shop was full of treats and lovely gifts. We came away with a wooden tiger toy. I would say if you have a pushchair or wheelchair be prepared to do some pushing up hills and over rocky ground. All the animals were well looked after and the view was gorgeous on the hill.

Zoo With A View

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is my favourite zoo ever. Set high up on a hilltop, you cannot help but be impressed by the hard work that has gone into the layout which makes it such a pleasure to walk around.
Boasting many differnt species of animals, the environments are all set into the local landscape and you can view a large range of animals.
There is also a small petting zoo, reptile house and a restaurant so you can easily find plenty to do.
It is slightly harder work with a pushchair due to the hills, but perfectly manageable if you take your time!
