Llangollen Railway

Llangollen in North Wales is truly lovely it is surrounded by mountains and is wet, green and perfect. It has the fast flowing River Dee making it a haven for white water rafting and outdoor pursuit centres. The World Heritage Pontcysylite Aqueduct which is over 1000 ft long and arches 126 ft above the Dee is an impressive site. Canal boats drift along this in single file and its hard to imagine it was built over 200 hundred years ago. The highlight of our trip was the Llangollen Railway where you can ride a steam train for £12 return for a twenty minute trip. It is also a great way to see the aqueduct. We did not manage to get the steam train but the electric train pulls the same antique carriages. The whole area is ideal for walking and juggles the balance of keeping its history while managing the tourists. Great for all ages and I look forward to a return visit.
