Conwy Castle overview
The castle was built to intimidate the Welsh (by the English of course!) and the granite exterior is still a bit scary. All the walls and towers are intact and if you have kids who enjoy scrambling ...
around historical ruins then they will enjoy their visit. There are no specific activities designed just for children, but there are events such as plays and demonstrations put on during the summer so do check before you go.

Take a picnic, a play sword and dress-up in fancy medieval clothing and have yourself a fun-filled day out at Conwy Castle. If you’re blessed with good weather I’d say this castle could occupy the attention of children aged seven years and above for a good four hours if not more. We visited on a damp February morning during the school holidays with lots of other families and a few school trips who all marvelled at the views of the sea and the town from the castle. Our three-year daughter managed the winding stone steps, and with her four-year old brother enjoyed discovering the many towers and dragon’s dungeons at Conwy Castle. This is not the place to come with a pram; you’ll need a baby carrier and make sure you go to the toilet before visiting as we couldn’t find any on site. We picnicked on the ruins and managed to occupy ourselves for a couple of hours before taking ourselves for a wander around the town’s castle walls. Buy a CADW three or seven day pass, it really does save you money if you’re visiting the area and want to see more than one Welsh castle.
