Pembroke Castle overview
This looks exactly what it is - a genuine, heart stopping, 'you cant expect us to attack that', kind of castle. Just view it from the other side of its river defences first to appreciate its ...
splendour, before taking the kids over to explore its mighty defences from the inside. Its history is really something as well but then that's part the reason they have their own web site. They have historical reenactments at weekends and brass rubbing tuition all the time, but to be honest it doesn't need many extras.

Climb the myriad turrets and walkways that soldiers used to walk and live in, here at this enormous castle. So much is intact, and very exciting for children, as it can get a bit dark and creepy at times, and kids call down to their families once they have climbed up.
It's safe for running around as the site is entirely encircled by the castle walls - useful for my houdini-esque 4-year old, so older kids can roam freely. It's flat and toddlers can come to no harm.
There are lawns and seated areas for picnics which you can take in with you.
Very good loos here with baby change facilities and disabled access.
We thought this was a buggy friendly place, as there's space to wheel around, and good access to the facilities, and good value for money.
If it's a rainy day it would loose a bit of its charm but you could still have a short look round but the cae has a sheltered area, and the castle is central to Pembroke itself if you needed to detour for some indoor pursuits!
