Manor House Wildlife Park overview

Manor House Wildlife Park (Anna's Welsh Zoo) is located in the tiny hamlet of St Florence, near the coastal town of Tenby. It has gained widespread publicity, as it is run by Anna Ryder Richardson ... and featured in the BBC series 'Wild Welsh Zoo' in 2009. The park is set in 52 acres of organic farmland and features a wide array of exotic animals such as Zebra, Gibbons, Rhino and Meerkats. Information boards aimed at teaching children interesting facts about them accompany all the animals in Manor House Wildlife Park, and there is an emphasis on wildlife conservation. There are also regular demonstrations of animal handling by the Park Keepers, workshops, walk-throughs designed for those who only have a couple of hours at the park, and wildlife trails. Anna's Welsh Zoo has lots of facilities for families such as a food hall, picnic areas, BBQ facilities, cafes, high chairs, children’s play areas, toilets and baby changing facilities. Please note that the park is closed during the winter months from November to February.

Great zoo experience in natural environment

Anna's welsh zoo formally known as manor house wildlife park has had some major changes and alterations made to it since Anna took it over. The whole place is very natural and definately consentrates on keeping the animals as happy as possible in an environment as close to there natural habitat as possible. You can get up close and personal amongst the walabies, lemars and goats which is great for all the children. There are living willow huts and mini houses, a hay barn which the kids love playing on and two small play areas, one containing a sandpit which my smallest child would have been happy to stay in all day. The place is definitely better appreciated on a sunny or at least non raining day as there isn't much undercover although I have heard there are plans for more activities undercover in the future. It is quite expensive but they do annual tickets that are well worth getting if you plan to go more than once and children under 4 are free.

Fun but a bit compact

We were looking forward to visiting the wildlife park after seeing many of the attractions on the BBC series 'Wild Welsh Zoo'. The entry price was a little more expensive than nearby attractions but the price of a season ticket was very reasonable. On entering we bought some wallaby food (£1 for four pellets) and walked through the Wallaby enclosure. We loved the fact that you could feed and stroke the wallabies, and the highlight of our visit was seeing a mother wallaby who had a baby wallaby in her pouch. Visitors have the choice of two walks around the park and we decided to take the longer walk to make the most of our visit. We saw quite a variety of animals including monkeys, ostriches, flamingoes, camels and meerkats. Most of the animals had large enclosures which was nice to see but viewing points and information on the animals were very frequent. Children could also complete quizzes/games as they went round. Another highlight was walking through the monkey enclosure as you got to see the monkeys very close up. There was also a playground for the children to enjoy and a picnic area. The park was a little smaller than I had imagined so after a couple of hours we had pretty much seen and done everything so I think you would be hard pushed to spend the entire day here. On the plus side we did find the staff really friendly and we also enjoyed watching the television crews filiming the next series. We even got to see Anna Ryder Richardson which I definately thought was a bonus! I would recommend that you combine a visit here with a visit to the dinosaur park which is only a few hunder yards down the road, to ensure you have a full day of fun with the kids.
