Brecon Beacons National Park overview

The Brecon Beacons National Park is one of Wales’s three national parks and covers over 519 square miles, with over half of this 1000ft above sea level. There is a wide ranging amount of activities ... to do to suit every family, from climbing mountains, including the famous Pen Y Fan, to enjoying the canals or visiting quaint market towns and castles. Brecon Beacons National Park has a full programme of guided walks, activities and events aimed at children, with many walks suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Details of these can be found at the Brecon Beacons National Park Visitors Centre and tearoom, based in Libanus six miles south of Brecon. The Georgian town of Brecon is also well equipped for families with a number of supermarkets, and a vast array of toy shops. There is also a museum, which captures all the history and legends linked to the Brecon Beacons National Park, such as the story of little Tommy Jones, nicknamed the Victim of the Beacons.

As you drive through the beacons you are mesmerized by the stunning views and to be honest a drive through the beacons is a trip in itself. To make more of it you can visit the visitors centre in Brecon which will give you loads of informaton about walks and cycle hire. A walk up Pen Y Fan has to be a highlight but it is a vcery strenuous walk so not suitable for children but is great for teenagers. There are awesome views from the top, some of the best in wales. Brecon town centre is also worth a visit with loads of lovely toy shops although you could regret it! Lovely all round!
