Top Tips for that extra special family holiday in Brittany
• Fans of Asterix and Obelix will enjoy a visit to Carnac to see the Menhirs, the huge standing stones that Obelix sculpts and carries around in the Asterix books. There are thousands of them here and they are a very impressive sight. The south facing beaches in this area are some of the best in France.
• The Breton traditions and Celtic heritage are strong here, with myths and legends, music and folk art combined with Christian festivals. From May to September you may come across the famous ‘pardons’ processions, celebrated with music, dancing and traditional local costumes.
• If you are near the enchanting forest of Broceliande, west of Rennes, you can relive the stories of Merlin and King Arthur and his Knights. While the Forest of Huelgoat, in the Armorique Regional Natural Park, has tales of goblins and giants in a mysterious setting with mossy boulders, stepping stones, grottos and streams.
• Outdoor sports enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Brittany, walking, horse riding, cycling, golfing and all types of boating and water sports. The west of Brittany has great beaches, safe and sandy and ideal for kids. The spectacular Pink Granite Coast has amazing rock formations and a coastal walk with stunning views.

Oceanopolis in Brest is divided into polar, temperate and tropical zones with well-displayed viewing aquariums, plenty of hands on exhibitions for kids and even a play area. Audierne Aquarium in Finistere is rather unusual. As well as over a hundred species of fish, there is also a bird display a few times a day in an amphitheatre overlooking the harbour.
