Nice Apartments But Jersey Itself a Disappointment

If you really do want to go to Jersey, then for self cateing accommodation you could not do better than the Panama Apartments apart from the fact that they have severely limited car parking, so a hire car is a major problem finding a space to put it in when not in use. The whole of Jersey is a parking problem anyway, which makes a hire car problematic, as the local authorities have not taken visitors & tourists into their traffic planning ideas. Yes the bus system is good, but a hire car would have been better. Panama apartments are clean and friendly, with no frills, but that suited us fine. The manageress was helpful and the cleaning staff were efficient and cheerful. Jersey itself was a bit of a disappointment, as we had always felt it was a bit like Gibraltar ... a duty free haven. Not so. In fact pipe tobaccco was TWICE the cost of buying it here in the UK !!! There is only one tobacconist selling pipe tobacco on the island ! A bottle of gin was more expensive than at home too. The restrictive politically correct smoking policy on the whole island was also a disappointment. The only things worth seeing are the War Tunnels, which are very professionally done, and the Durrell Wildlife Park. There was not a great deal to do for youngsters apart from these. I'll be going to Gibraltar in future for the "continental but still British" feel, as there the duty free is still going, and I can stll have a pint and a smoke of my pipe at the same time, which is what the UK used to be like before the politically correct brigade took over. As I said, if you really MUST go to Jersey then you will not be disappointed with the Panama Apartments
